Senate Square presents the architecture of Carl Ludvig Engel as a unique allegory of political, religious, scientific and commercial powers in central Helsinki. Senate Square and its surroundings form the oldest part of central Helsinki. Landmarks and famous buildings surrounding the square are Helsinki Cathedral, the Government House, the main building of the University of Helsinki, and Sederholm House, the oldest building in central Helsinki dating back to 1757.
