Cava d'Ispica

Archeological Site Sicily, Italy

Cava d'Ispica

Cava Ispica is a river valley, immersed in the typical vegetation of the Mediterranean maquis, which houses prehistoric necropolises, Christian catacombs, rock oratories.

Explore in a path in the middle of nature, the early Christian catacomb of the Larderia which extends over 500 m2, with a number of burials of 464 tombs. The Caves of Santa Maria, with the rock church extraordinarily articulated on two levels, have pictorial traces on the walls. The Centoscale, a unique work in the panorama of rock excavations, is a tunnel with various passages with a rectangular section and 280 steps dug into the rock to form a steeply inclined plane. It is probably a deep well used to draw water.
