Altare prenurargico di Monte d'Accoddi

Mountain Sardinia, Italy

A unique monument in the Mediterranean basin Altare prenurargico di Monte d'Accoddi

The temple of Monte d'Accoddi (from the archaic kodi, 'stone'), dating back to five thousand years ago, is a unique ziggurat in Europe due to the singularity of its architectural typologies. It was discovered in the mid-twentieth century, digging a small hill that seemed 'artificial' in the center of a plain. In reality, it was a pyramidal altar covered with earth, perhaps dedicated to a female divinity, carved in a granite stele next to the monument.
