Alcatraz

Prison San Francisco, California

An unescapable visit Alcatraz

Alcatraz is an island 2.01 km from the mainland located in San Francisco Bay, famous because it was once the site of the maximum security prison of the same name. It has always been nicknamed The Rock ("the rock"), as a high percentage of the island is made up of rock. Another nickname is The Bastion ("The Fortress"), as it seemed impossible to hypothesize an escape. Visiting the famous Alcatraz prison will make you remember scenes from famous movies.

In its nearly 30 years of activity, from August 1934 to March 1963, none of the prisoners being held in Alcatraz has ever been able to escape. This prison became famous for the VIPs being locked up in there, like the legendary Al Capone, and for the extremely violent methods used towards the prisoners. Whether you're interested in this prison's history or fond of nature, Alcatraz Island will give you what you need: guided tours through the places and jails that hosted the most famous gangsters of American history as well as seabirds colonies living on this island.
