A traditional market takes place there on Saturday mornings where locals sell their wares to Namche Bazar residents and tourists.

Namche Bazar is known as the main starting point towards many peaks of the Himalayas. Many visitors stay a day or more in the village to acclimate to the altitude before embarking on hiking or mountaineering expeditions.
