Founded by the sculptress and billionaire art lover Gertrude Vandelbilt Whitney on 1930, Whitney Museum of American Art holds the greatest american art collection of the XX century.
A grey, massive granite and reinforced concrete building harbors the 5 floors of this museum. This structure was designed by the Hungarian designer Marcel Breuer and opened to the public on 1966. Among the 5 floors, only one keeps an ongoing display, amongst them the masterpieces of Edward Hopper and Kooning, Demuth and Andy Warhol paintings.
