The Kremlin is a fortified complex, which is located in the city center of Moscow. It is the best known of the Russian citadels and comprises five palaces, four cathedrals, and the Kremlin wall which encloses an area of 275,000 square meters. The name "Kremlin" literally translated means city fortress, and is also often used metonymically to refer to the government of the Russian Federation.
