311 steps leading to a balcony to enjoy one of the most spectacular views of the city. Built between 1671 and 1677 to commemorate the Great London Fire of 1666, with its 202 meters, it is the tallest stone column in the world.
During the reconstruction, authorities wanted a memorial in the exact place where the Great Fire had originated. Sir Christopher Wren and his friend and colleague Dr. Robert Hooke, designed and built a colossal holed groove column in Doric style, made of Portland Stone.
