The fish frying process had long been known in England, due to Jewish immigration from the Mediterranean. According to some theories, Venetian immigrants missed their traditional "scartosso de pés" (wrapped fish) and imported in Britain the habit of eating fried fish, wrapped in thick paper to eat while walking.
