Shirakawa Gion

The Gion district was born in the Middle Ages as a rest area for pilgrims on their way to the Yasaka Shrine. It shouldn't be difficult to meet geishas along the streets, with whom you can take some pictures of your holiday. Unlike the rest of the modern city of Kyoto, this neighborhood seems to have kept traditional Japanese buildings, which now house several souvenir shops, restaurants and tea-houses.
