The Chicago Park District is the oldest and one of the largest park districts in the United States. As of 2016, there are over 580 parks included in the Chicago Park District as well as 31 beaches, several boat harbors, two botanic conservatories, a zoo, and 11 museums. The parks also have multiple field houses, public pools, and sports and recreational facilities, and host programs throughout the year. One of America's best-kept secrets is Chicago's historic park system: even locals who routinely enjoy its several open spaces, from the majestic lakeshore parks to intimate neighborhood settings, may be surprised about their parkland legacy.
