Mercato di Mezzo

Market Bologna, Italy

Street food Mercato di Mezzo

Mercato di Mezzo is one of the most representative historical places of Bolognese food culture, a few steps from Piazza Maggiore: since the Middle Ages, this has been the place for flavors and meetings, commerce and gastronomical traditions of Bologna. After the unification of Italy, it was transformed into the first indoor market of the city, and in 2014 it was recovered and renovated, after many years of being abandoned. A three storey pavilion, where you can buy or eat on site excellent food products and dishes. On the ground floor you can find tables of various sizes, for intimate meals or meals in large groups, and small stalls located on the lateral corners as it was in the 19th century: meat, fish, sausages, cheese, fruit, bread, pasta, ice cream, pastry and wine are some of the delicacies offered. On the first floor you can find a traditional pizzeria and, on the basement floor, a artisanal beer pub where you can taste unique beers. In Clavature Street, just near the Santa Maria Della Vita Church, the market also offers small tables and outside seating. Mercato di Mezzo is open seven days a week, from 8,30 a.m. until midnight, and it often has tasting events and meetings on food culture.
